Abstract Chronic periodontitis is one of the most common infectious diseases of the oral cavity largely associated with the imbalance of indigenous microflora resulting in overgrowth of periodontal pathogens such as Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. According to the American Academy of Periodontology, The goals of periodontal therapy are to preserve the natural dentition, Periodontium and peri-implant tissues; to maintain and improve periodontal and peri-implant health, comfort, esthetics, and function. Currently accepted clinical signs of a healthy periodontium include the absence of inflammatory signs of disease. |
