Abstract Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most co mmon vaginal infection and the most common cited cause of vaginal discharge and malodor in women of childbearing age (Alexander, 2007) . Bacterial vaginosis (BV),in the past referred to as nonspecific vaginitis, is a poly-microbial syndrome characterized by a shift in vaginal flora from a predominant population of Lactobacilli to their gradual or total replacement with anaerobe( Caleb ,2008 ; Fatemeh et al.,2006 ; CDC,2008) . Lifestyle behavior, customs, toilet and vaginal hygiene practices have been suggested as important factors that might influence vaginal flora composition ( Caleb, 2008). Although there is a contradiction among different studies regarding the rela tionship between bacterial vaginosis and genital hygiene practice, some authors like Klebanoff et al. (2010),who studied relationship between personal hygiene and bacterial vaginosis have reported that BV was associated with hygienic practices like daily bathing and vaginal douching, Yet, others like Demba et al.(2005) , who studied bacterial vaginosis, vaginal flora patterns and vaginal hygiene practices in patients presenting with vaginal discharge syndrome in Gambia, West Africa, concluded that BV or vaginal flora patterns were not associated with any of the va ginal hygiene characteristics like sexual hygiene practices ,vaginal douching, menstrual hygiene. |
