Abstract

Objective: oxidized Low-Density Lipoprotein (ox-LDL) is a marker of cardiovascular disease, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the level of ox-LDL in patients with chronic periodontitis as well as the effect of non-surgical periodontal therapy on ox-LDL serum levels. Subjects &Methods: This study was conducted on 48 subjects; 18 patients with documented cardiaovascular disease along with chronic periodontitis(group I), 15 patients with chronic periodontitis but free from any known systemic diseases (group II), and 15 subjects as a control group without periodontitis or any other known systemic diseases (group III). Thorough nonsurgical periodontal therapy was done to all subjects with 3 months follow up.Clinical parameters (PPD, CAL, PI, GI) were recorded for each participant before and after treatment. Blood samples were obtained from all subjects at the beginning and at the end of the present study and the level of ox-LDL was determined using ELISA technique.
