Abstract SUMMARY Pharmacognostical and biological Study of Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) Standl. Family Cucurbitaceae grown In Egypt Lagenaria is a widespread temperate and tropical genus of the family Cucurbitaceae which is characterized by the presence of many biological active compounds such as; sterols, terpenes, flavonoids, simple phenolics and acids. In spite of the prescence of some reports concerning phytochemical and biological study of genus Lagenaria, the prescence of Large number of secondary metabolities and their biological activities encourage us to study the Pharmacognostical characterister of this plant. So, this thesis comprises a phamacognostical study of Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) Standl. belonging to family Cucurbitaceae to perform: 1. Botanical study of its different organs to facilitate the identification of the plant in both entire and powdered forms. 2. Isolation and characterization of its chemical constituents. 3. Biological study of the plant extracts. Thus, the present study was performed in three parts included: botanical and phytochemical studies, as well as biological activities of different extracts. |
