Abstract

Eosinophilic esophagitis (EE) is an allergic inflammatory disease characterized by elevated eosinophils in the esophagus EE is a newly recognized disease that over the past decade has been increasingly diagnosed in children and adults. This increase is thought to reflect an increase in diagnosis as well as a true increase in EE cases (Noel et al., 2004) .
Upper Gastroinestinal tract Symptoms are, dysphagia , food Impaction and heart burn the disease was first described in children but occurs in adults as well. The condition is not well understood, but food allergy may play a significant role.
More recently researches have begun looking for links between EE and autoimmune Disease some EE Patients Suffer from Skin Condition Such as psoriasias or seborrheic dermatitis or respiratory condition such as asthma or allergic rhinitis . there appears to be no proven link between EE and esophagitis cancer (Blanchard and Rothenberg,2008) .
Presence of more than 20 eosinophils per high power field in esophageal specimen is strongly suggestive of this diagnosis (Hawari et al ., 2007 ).
What Allergic Triggers commonly Cause EE?
Various studies have shown that patients with EE have positive allergy tests to various foods, and that avoidance of these foods led to the resolution of EE symptoms. Foods reported to be the cause of EE have included milk, eggs, peanuts, shellfish, peas, beef, chicken, fish, rye, corn, soy, potatoes, oats, tomatoes and wheat. Of these, the most common food triggers are milk, egg, wheat, rye and beef.
Environmental allergens, such as pollens, molds, cat, dog and dust mite allergens may also be involved in the development of EE (Norvell, et al.,2007)
Eosinophils are not normally present in the esophagus, although they may be found in other areas of the gastrointestinal tract. Diseases other than EE can cause eosinophils in the esophagus including gastroesophageal reflux diseases (GERD), food allergy, and inflammatory bowel clinical symptoms, number of eosinophils present, and tissue inflammation (Rothenberg, et al.,2004).
The published studies in literature showed that EOE is found mainly in industrized countries Such as the united states,Canada,Europe,,and Australia, although there have been reports from all continents except Africa (Noel et al ,2004 and strauman and simon,2005,furuta et al.,2007).
In our study, the prevalence of eosinophilic esophagitis was zero percent in 105 patients presented with upper gastrointestinal symptoms including:dysphagia, vomiting, epigastricpain, and anorexia.
