Abstract

The present study was designed aiming as establishing a part to the role of the genital affection on the urinary system in case of infertility problem due to bacterial infection.
A total of 146 swabs of uterine discharges and similar number of urine samples were taken from 76 cows and 70 buffaloes admitted into the clinic suffering from problems of repeat breeding or anoestrum.
On the clinical examination and from signs of oestrus,
these animals were assigned into three groups:
1)Animals with normal condition (7 cows and 7 buffaloes).
2)Animals with mucopurulent/purulent endometritis (47 cows and 46 buffaloes).
3)Animals with pyometra (22 cows and 17 buffaloes). Samples from both uterine discharge and urine were used for bacterial isolation and identification.
Statistical analysis of the data obtained revealed the following:
1- In the normal condition the most common bacteria were Staph. epidermidis (13.33%), Strept. faecalis (26.67%), E. coli (33.33%) for uterine swabs and were Staph. aurues (17.29%), Strept. faecalis (14.26%), C. renale (28.57%),
unclassed Corynebacterium (14.29%), Cit. diversus (14.29%) and Klebsiella (14.29%) for urine samples.
2-In case of mucopurulent/purulent endometritis, the most common bacteria were E. coli (19.86%), Strept. faecalis (13.28%), Staph. aurues (12.77%) and C. renale (8.51%) for uterine swabs and were Staph. aureus (22.67%), E. coli (17.33%), C. renale (16.00%) and C. bovis (8.00%) for urine samples.
3-In case of pyometra, the most common bacteria were Staph. aureus (22.22%), C. pyogenes (20.63%), E. coli (11.11%) and Strept. pyogenes (9.52%) for uterine swabs and were Staph. aureus (25.53%), C. pyogenes (21.28%), E. coli (10.64%), Strept. pyogenes and Ps. aeruginosa (8.51%) for urine samples.
4-There was a highly significant and positive correlation between the genital and urinary affections in case of mucopurulent/purulent endometritis (r= 0.737) and pyometra (r= 0.976), contrary to that recorded in the normal condition (r= -0.162).
5-from the sensitivity test gentamycin appeared as the medicament of choice for treatment.
The optimal conception rate was achieved (73.33%) when treatment was given as local intrauterine infusion plus systemic as intramuscular injection.
