Abstract A total of 61208 buffalo animals were slaughtered and examined in Assiut province slaughter - houses during the period from January 1991 to December 1993 to detect the Cysticercus bovis and Sarcocyst infestation in each inspected carcase during the routine post slaughter examination. A total of 155(0.253%) inspected buffalo carcases during the period from 1991 to 1993 were infested by C. bovis, whereas the incidence in both young and old animals was 117(0.191 %) and 38(0.062%) out a total of 61208 slaughtered buffalo animals, respectively. The number of slaughtered buffalo animals during 1991, 1992 and 1993 was 27747, 12353 and 21108, where the incidence of C. bovis in young and old animals was 51(0.186%) and 24(0.087%), 39(0.316%) and 14(0.114%) and 27(0.127%) and nil, respectively. The incidence of Sarcocyst infestation among young buffalo animals was 478(1.72%), 201(1.62%) and 305(1.44%) while in examined old animals was 1248(4.49%), 1228(9.94%) and 1233(4.73%) out of 27747, 12353 and 21108 slaughtered buffalo animals during 1991, 1992 and 1993, respectively . |
