Abstract

During the period from January 2010 to the end of December
2010, The prevalence of some cysticerci among slaughtered cattle, buffaloes, camels, and
sheep at rural areas in Menofia abattoirs was carried out.
The obtained results revealed that the incidence of C. bovis in cattle and buffalos was
higher in autumn and spring than other seasons. Also, C. bovis were detected with higher
percentages in old animals as compared with young ones .Also; C. bovis were detected
with higher percentages in cattle a s compared with buffalos.
The incidence of C. bovis in slaughtered cattle (Authority data) was 5.46%, 6.25%,
5.79% and 8.66% for heads in winter, spring, summer and autumn, respectively.while the
incidence of C. bovis in slaughtered cattle (Authority data) was 5.49%, 5.55%, 5.38% and
7.84% for hearts in winter, spring, summer and autumn, respectively.
The incidence of C. bovis in slaughtered cattle (Detailed inspection) was 16.8%,
7.86% and 8.44% for heads in old females, young males and old males, respectively.while
the incidence of C. bovis in slaughtered cattle (Detailed inspection) was 16.13%, 6.79%
and 8.89% for hearts in old females, young males and old males, respectively
The incidence of C. bovis in slaughtered buffaloes (Authority data) was 2.16%,
2.31%, 1.76% and 3.38% for heads in winter, spring, summer and autumn,
respectively.while the incidence of C. bovis in slaughtered buffaloes (Authority data) was
4.42%, 2.03%, 1.45% and 0.04% for hearts in winter, spring, summer and autumn,
respectively.
The incidence of C. bovis in slaughtered buffaloes (Detailed inspection ) was 5.26%,
1.20% and 5.65% for heads in old females, young males and old males, respectively.while
The incidence of C. bovis in slaughtered buffaloes (Detailed inspection ) was 4.49%,
2.00% and 5.19% for hearts in old females, young males and old males, respectively
On the other hand, the incidence of C. cameli in slaughtered camels (Authority data)
was 0.59%, 0.99%, 0.53% and 0% for heads in winter, spring, summer and autumn,
respectively.while the incidence of C. cameli in slaughtered camels (Authority data) was
0.69%, 0.89%, 0.64% and 0% for heart in winter, spring, summer and autumn,
respectively.
The incidence of C. cameli in slaughtered camels (Detailed inspection) was 0% and
2.90% for heads in young camels and old ones, respectively.while the incidence of C.

cameli in slaughtered camels (Detailed inspection) was 0% and 2.58% for hearts in young
camels and old ones, respectively.Young camels not harbour any metacestodes
In regard to C. ovis The incidence in slaughtered sheep (Authority data) was 7.54%,
7.41%, 6.58% and 3.33% for heads in spring,winter, summer and autumn,
respectively.while the incidence of C. ovis in slaughtered sheep (Authority data) was
7.59%, 4.63%, 6.69% and 3.27% for hearts in spring,winter, summer and autumn,
respectively.
The incidence of C. ovis in slaughtered sheep (Detailed inspection ) was 8% and
10.90% for heads in young sheep and old ones, respectively.while the incidence of C. ovis
in slaughtered sheep (Detailed inspection ) was 7.60% and 9.54% for hearts in young
sheep and old ones, respectively
Partial condemnation of 639 from 9709 inspected cattle (6.58%) , 202 from 8427
inspected buffaloe (2.39%) , 39 from 7621 inspected camel (0.51%) and 433 from 7877
inspected sheep (5.49%) according the law of the local authorities .while in detailed
examination partial condemnation of 216 from 1660 inspected cattle (13.01%) , 81 from
1685 inspected buffaloe (4.81%) , 9 from 590 inspected camel (1.53%) and 53 from 554
inspected sheep (9.57%) .
Total condemnation of 9 from 9709 inspected cattle (0.09%) and 5 from 8427 inspected
buffaloe (0.06%) according the law of the local authorities. no total condemnation recorded
in case of camel and
sheep.while in detailed examination total condemnation of 6 from 1660 inspected cattle
(0.36%) and 4 from 1685 inspected buffaloe (0.24%)
also no total condemnation recorded in case of camel and sheep.
