Abstract

The cost of operations and maintenance can make of break a business. In maintenance, there are two basic interventions:
Preventive maintenance activities were executed to prevent failure and corrective maintenance, in which maintenance activities were made of return equipment to services after failure was occurred. The final maintenance plan for a company`s assets will be a combination of these alternatives, and often they could be used together on the same equipment. This investigation introduces a maintenance management system for mobile cranes. These equipment were selected for the investigation due to the complexity of their maintenance activities; this complexity is due the large number of elements with different categories included in this equipment.
The management system of maintenance is developed through two sections; first section is made by developing software for application of routine maintenance operations, while in the second part the application of project management software (primavera) is applied for overhaul of mobile cranes.
A case study on the maintenance of a mobile crane was used to illustrate the performance of the maintenance management system used in this investigation.
The results show the potential of maintenance management system in cost reduction.
The results also show that the application of computerized maintenance give effective usage of maintenance resources which lead to increasing in maintenance productivity and reduce the total cost.
The results obtained from the application of the above mentioned two techniques can beneficial not only in areas such maintenance scheduling and planning but also in determining location where an investment will be paid for optimum usage of the investment.
