Abstract

Two field experiments were carried out at El-Ghorieb Exp. Farm, Agriculture Fac., Assiut Univ., Egypt, during the summer of 2009 and 2010 seasons to investigate the effect of three nitrogen fertilizer rates (15, 25 and 35 kg N/fed.) and three phosphorus fertilizer rates (15.5, 23.0 and 31.0 kg P2O5/fed. on the yield and its attributes for three peanut varieties (Giza 9 as spreading group, Giza 5 and Giza 6 as erect group), grown in sandy calcareous soil.
The experimental design was split-split plot in a randomized complete block design at split-split plot with four replicates. The varieties arranged in the main plots, phosphorus treatments allocated in the sub-plots and nitrogen treatments occupied the sub-sub plots.
The important results could be summarized as follow:

- Giza 9 variety was taller plants than Giza 5 and Giza 6 varieties in both seasons.
- The tallest plants were recorded by the highest phosphorus rate (31.0 kg P2O5/fed. in the 1st season.
- The plant height increased by increasing nitrogen fertilizer rates in both seasons.
- The tallest plants were obtained by V2xP3, V1xN3, P3xN3 and V2xP3xN2 followed by V1xP3xN3 in the 1st season, while the tallest plant height were recorded by V1xP1 in the 2nd season.

7. Seeds weight per plant (g):
- Giza 6 and Giza 5 varieties gave the maximum values of seeds weight/ plant in the 1st and the 2nd seasons, respectively.
- The highest phosphorus fertilizer rates in both seasons, as well as the 25 or/and the 35 kg N/fed. in the 1st and the 2nd seasons, respectively, gave the maximum values of seeds weight/plant.
- The maximum values of seeds weight/plant are produced by V3xP3, V3xN3, P3xN2 and V3xP3xN2 followed by V3xP3xN1 interactions in the 1st season, while in the 2nd season the maximum ones were produced by V3xP1, V3xN3, P1xN3 and V3xP1xN3 followed by V2xP1xN3 interaction.
