Abstract Hypospadias is a congenital abnormality of the male genitalia characterized by incomplete development of the urethra so that the external urethral meatus is on the ventral surface of the penis or on the scrotum or perineum, rather than at the tip of the glans Hypospadias is a common congenital anomaly with an incidence of 1 per 200 to 300 live male births, and 65% of this anomaly of the distal type . Surgical repair of hypospadias has a history of more than 150 years. Today more than 300 surgical procedures with accompanying modifications have been proposed for the repair of hypospadias . Our study aimed to compare between two techniques for hypospadias repair which are perimeatal based flap technique (Mathieu) and tubularized incised plate (Snodgrass) . Each technique was applied at the same number of patients in two groups as follow : a. Snodgrass group: this includes ten patients (all are primary hypospadias cases) subjected to tubularized incised plate (Snodgrass) technique . b. Mathieu group : that also includes ten patients (all are primary hypospadias cases) subjected to permeatal based flap (Mathieu) technique . Both techniques were applied at the two groups in the period between 2011 – 2012 . Follow up of the patients ranged from one week to six months thorough observation showed that : In Snodgrass group 2 cases(20%) developed urethrocutaneous fistula one of them were associated with stenosis and closed spontaneously while the other case was successfully repaired later . In Mathieu group 3 cases(30%) developed urethrocutaneous fistula one of them were associated with meatal stenosis and were successfully repaired later, other one healed spontaneously and the third case still under observation . On comparing the two groups, the first group achieved better results as regard the complications rate and cosmetic appearance. |
