Abstract
Summary Internet addiction is a newly emergent disorder which many practitioners are unaware of and consequently unprepared to treat. it is considered one of the addictive behavior like other types of addiction that require attention from the professional communities and health team members in general and psychiatric nurse in specific as it probably leads to changes in the physical and psychological profiles of the young population such as (altered sleep patterns , headache, lack of concentration , muscle tension , joint stiffness ,inability to discriminate between the real and cyber world , hostility, reduced decision making ability ) and may interfere with the person’s social life as (e.g., identity confusion , loss of relationship) ,and effect academic consequences such as, missed classes,lower grades and even academic dismissal, and at certain occasions constituting a predisposing factor for the appearance of psychiatric disorders as depression ,anxiety and stress .The aim of the study was to : Assess the impact of internet addiction on psychological problems among menoufia university students and investigate relationship between internet addiction and psychological problems of university students. To achieve this aim , a sample of 600 students in the faculty of art, law, science and engineering in the Shebin El Kom- Menoufia university were chosen by simple stratified cluster sample ,males and females who use the internet continuously and for at least 6 hours per day . Their age ranged between 17 -22 years old. A descriptive correlational research design was used in conduction of this study .
