Abstract

This investigation was carried out at the experimental farm of Rice Research and Training Center (RRTC), Sakha, Kafr El-Sheikh, Egypt, during the two growing seasons of 2010 and 2011. The objectives of this investigation were to study:
- To assess the variation amongst some rice genotypes and available crosses for several agronomic traits.
- To study the potentiality of heterosis expression of agronomic traits.
- To study the general and specific combining abilities and their interaction for all genotypes were used in this study. The genotypes, GZ9057-6-1-3-2 and G46B for the experiment I and GZ8479-6-2-3-1, IR67701B and Sakha101 for the experiment II were the good combiners for yield and its component traits and having high potentialities can be used in rice breeding programme.
- To determine the different genetic parameters (additive and dominance) and heritability in broad and narrow senses by Griffing method 1956, and how to use this parameters to produce the hybrids and rice improvement.
- To identify maintainers and restorers for cyto-plasmic male sterile lines of rice. The parents Giza 178, GZ6296, PR78 and GZ9057 were the best restorers for three CMS lines and we can use these parents to development new hybrid rice.
