Abstract

A simple, accurate and economic microbiological cylinder-plate assay was developed for the simultaneous determination of three of the most recent and applicable FQs namely gatifloxacin, levofloxacin and moxifloxacin. In the developing phase of the microbiological method, factors that might affect sensitivity and accuracy of the assay as type and size of the inocula of the tested microorganism, pH of the dissolving buffer and type of media were studied. Results revealed that E. coli ATCC 25922,phosphate buffer pH 8 and antibiotic medium No. 1 as growth medium were the conditions which gave the highest sensitivity and accuracy for the analysis of the tested FQs.
