Abstract

A total number of 80 balady sheep, their ages ranged from 3 — 5 years were included in the present study. Sheep were belonged to Assiut Province specially the following places: 1- Animal production station in El-Hawatka.
2— Assiut Abattoir. 3— veterinary clinic of the faculty of veterinary medicine,
Assiut University. 4— Private cases. Animals were classified according to the healthy status after they subjected to careful clinical and laboratory
methods of examination into: (l)Clinically healthy group which included 20 sheep. (2)Group II which suffered from impaction which included
20 sheep (3)Group III which suffered from tympany and included 20
sheep. (4)Group iv which suffered from indigestion and included 20
sheep. The levels of the following blood serum parameters were
estimated: 1— Blood serum A-amylase.U/I 2— Blood serum lipase U/i
3— Blood serum total lipids gil 4— Blood serum triglyceride gil 5- Blood serum cholesterol mg/dl 6— Blood serum calcium mg/di 7- Blood serum glucose mg/di 8— Blood serum total protein g/dl The most important clinical signs in examined sheep can be summarized as following: (1) clinical finding of impaction: Animals suffering from impaction showed transient loss
of appetite, reduced ruminal contraction, grey soft faeces,
some cases tend to lie down and others showed signs of
diarrhoea with yellowish green coloured, sometimes tinged
with blood, dull sound is heard by percussion of the rumen.
(2) clinical findings of tympany: Diseased animals showed distension of left side of the left side of the abdomen, animals become discomfort and may
get up and down frequently, dyspnoea associated with
protrusion of the tongue, salivation and extension of the
head, increased respiratory and pulse rate and tympanic
sound is heard by percussion of the rumen.
(3) clinical findings of indigestion: Sheep suffered from indigestion showed signs of dull ness, suppression of rumination associated with decreased
ruminal movement. Faeces contains undigested grains of food.
Biochemical analysis of blood serum in examined sheep
revealed the following results: (l)A highly significant elevation (p<O.Ol) in the levels of blood serum A—amylase, lipase, total lipids, triglyce
rides, cholesterol, calcium and glucose values in sheep
suffered from impaction when compared with the control
group. (2)A highly significant elevation (p<O.Ol) in blood serum
A—amylase, lipase, total lipids, triglyceride and
glucose levels were evident in sheep suffered from
tympany were observed. Meanwhile the blood serum total
protein and cholesterol levels showed a non significant
variation. In addition blood serum calcium levels showed
a significant decrease (p<O.O5) in sheep suffered from
tympany when compared with control group. (3)A highly significant elevation (p<O.Ol) in the levels of
blood serum A—amylase, lipase in sheep suffered from
indigestion were evident.
(4)A highly significant decrease (p<O.Ol) in the levels of
blood serum total protein, calcium, cholesterol, total
lipids and triglyceride. Meanwhile there was a
significant increase (P<O.05) in blood serum glucose
values in sheep suffered from indigestion were observed.
