Abstract

Lean meat (mutton) with a suitable amount of fat, from a well-fattened lambs, has a more nutritive value and asssumes to be more healthy for the consumer, so the present work has been carried out to study the effect of
3 feeding adlibituwq and % commercial concentrate mixtures
on the absolute gain weight, relative growth rate and fat and mutton production.
1.Data collected for the study were obtained from twelve ossemii (fat-tailed) male lambs of the same age (4-5 months) and live body weight (average 24 Kg)•, procured from the Moshtohor Faculty of Agriculture.
2.Lambs were divided into 3 similar groups (four lambs in each group). Each lamb within a group was separat-ely fed and watered.
The planned feeding system involved three levels of concentrate mixture, each was specified for one group. Therefore, the group (1) individually received concent-rate mixture adlibitum (1250 gm) every morning, and the
3 groups (2) and (3) received a the amount concentrate
mixture of the first group (938 gm) and 11 the amount of concentrate mixture of the first group (625 gm), respectively. In addition, the rest of the day was completed 2 Kg barseem and 500 gm barseem straw for each lamb.
The effect of the feeding three planes of nutrition was followed during 23 weeks, at the end of which the results were studied.
3.The average body weights were 50.850+2.089 Kg, 44.525+6.257 Kg and 40.450+4.394, the absolute gains were 0.35 Kg, 0.15 Kg and 0.32 Kg,while, the relative growth rates were 0.69 Kg, 0.34 and 0.79 Kg-, respect-ively,in the three planes of nutrition, which in-turn resulted in a high dressing percentages which were 56.36%, 52.62% and 50.54% in the three groups , respectively.
4.The effect of the three planes of nutrition on the wholesale cuts revealed that the average weight of lean was highly significant difference (P<0.01), the loins between the high (1.091+0.028 Kg) and the low (0.903+0.043 Kg) feeding group, concerning the
-
fat content in the different cuts of the carcass
a significant (P<0.05) difference was noticed only in the breast between the high plane of nutrition (0.952+0.114 Kg) and the low plane of nutrition (0.496+0.166 Kg) feeding group. The bone content of the different cuts of the carcass noticed highly sifnificant (P<0.01) difference in legs between the high plane of nutrition (1.272+0.048 Kg) and low plane of nutrition (0.760+0.120 Kg) and also
in the fore shanks between the high group (0.369+ 0.003) and the low (0.318+0.075 Kg) feeding groups.
5.The- lean mutton percentages produced from feeding the lambs on the three planes of nutrition were 48.07%, 51.57% and 54.13%, respectively, while the fat percentages were 30.97, 30.34 and 25.20 respect-ively.
6.The ratio between lean to fat in the three planes of nutrition were 1.55: 1, 1.69: 1 and 2.14: 1, respectively.
7.The attained time needed to produce the same weights (39-40 Kg) in the 3 groups were:
-The first group which fed adlibitum concentrate mixture reach to this weight at 29th week of age.
3
-The second group fed -4 amount of concentrate
mixture fed to the first group reach to this weight at 32nd week of age. - The third group fed 1/2 the amount of concentrate mixture fed to the first group reach to this weight at 40th week of age.
