Abstract

The present investigation is directed towards the better understanding of the combustion processes and heat transfer in a tangentially fired furnaces . The aim of this work is to widen the knowledge and to provide detailed benchmark experimental data for one of the modified modes of combustion which were constructed to fulfil the requirements nowadays . The reliable operation of the furnace as a whole from also as an aim during this study .
In the present work, series of tests were carried out on a special model furnace . The designed model has a square cross-section of 0.6 x 0.6 m and hight of 1.03 m . The furnace corners were prepared for mounting one to three levels of burners on a provision to facilate the burners` movements .
One side of the model furnace is prepared by revelant measuring tappings giving a superintendence to the whole furnace volume.
Measurements of local gas temperatures, species concentrations and velocity distributions were recorded by using special designed water cooled probes for the model furnace.
An electronic integrator was used for temperature measurement. Volume fractions of C02 and C0 are carried out by using infrared gas analyzer while the concentration of 02 is measured by paramagnetic oxygen analyzer . The total heat transfer to the furnace walls is measured by measuring the rate of enthalpy rise of the cooling water.
The main parameter considered in the investigation is the deviation angle of burners ` axes to the diagonals of the model furnace . The effect of this parameter on the combustion processes and heat transfer in addition to the aerodynamics of the furnace volume is investigated.
The results obtained show the extent to which the deviation angle of the burners` axes from the furnace diagonals affect the performance of a tangentially fired model furnace.
