Abstract Blackleg disease of potato caused by erwinia carotora var atroseptica hellmers and dowson 1953 can occur wherever potato plants are grownhe first authentic description of a bacterial pathogen causing blackleg and soft rot of potatoes was given by van hall in 1902 he applied the name bacillus atrosepticus to the causal organism one year earlier jones 1901 had described bacillus carotovours as a bacterium capable of producing soft rots in many fleshy vegetables and plant parts. |
