Abstract Anterior maxillary osteotomy considered to be a method of choice to correct the maxillary protrusion when there is an accepted occlusion posteriorly. Fixation of the anterior maxillary osteotomy using biodegradable bone plates and screw system eliminate the disadvantages of using titanium bone plates and screw system. In this clinical study, sixteen adult patients with ages ranged from 19 to 26 years having and suffering from maxillary protrusion that could not be corrected by orthodontic treatment indicated and planed for surgical correction using anterior maxillary osteotomy. They were selected from the out-patients clinic of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, as well as from Orthodontic departments, Faculty of Dentistry, Tanta University. Patients of this study were classified into two equal groups (8 cases each) according to the plating and screw system that was used either biodegradable bone plating or titanium bone plating systems. The surgical technique was performed by the same team of surgeons in planned steps for all patients in both groups who were operated under general anesthesia via nasoendotracheal intubations. Orthodontic preparation, model surgery and occlusal wafer were done. before the surgical operation. Anterior maxillary osteotomy was done via Cuper vestibular approaches, extraction of the first premolars, reposition of the anterior maxillary part by the help of occlusal wafer and finally fixation of the osteotomy segments using one methods of the plating systems. |
