Abstract
The importamce of solar energy utilization has been discussed. Reasons for its use in Egypt are emphasysed. A theoretical review of the previous work in the field of solar cooling was made. More attention was given for the use of solar energy in refrigeration. in the different coo-ling systems and kinds of working fluids. Calculation of solar energy parameters for the whole year was made. The distribution of total insolation, temperature and relative humidity for each day of the year at Minia was considered. An experemental test rig was constructed and erected. The apparatus consistes of the collector unit and the refrigerator. The used measuring instrumentation was explained. A computer program covering calculations of all required paramete~in the system was given. This program gives.the quan-I fl1tity of heat added to the generator of the refrigerat unit, efficiency of the used collection unit ,angle of incidence and best angle for the inclination of the collector unit to give maximum efficiency. A series of experiments were made in order to select the If’} 9 suitable working fluid for the refrigerat unit.
