Abstract

The world faces a challenge on energy; conventional energy resources such as fossil fuels are getting scarcer and unstable. The continuous increase in the consumption of the fossil fuels pollute local and global environment. Energy is important key element to supporting the national economy, therefore energy management system, wisely energy usage and mix energy supply must be applied to reduce environmental pollution and achieve energy security. There is no doubt that renewable energy resources are able to achieve that target and in particular solar energy. The earth receives an abundant amount of renewable solar energy from the Sun. Egypt is located in the Sunbelt Solar energy area, the solar resources on Upper Egypt are excellent; the Upper Egypt cities ”Luxor & Aswan” are located in the highest solar density area and most powerful in the world tliroughout the year.
This work focuses on the Photo-Voltaic (PY) technology which has its own advantages comparing to other sources which operate in noiseless mode, emissions less, totally clean & green energy, with life span expectation between 20-30 years and very low maintenance costs. It is known fact that the efficiency conversion of solar energy to electrical energy using Photo-Voltaic (PV) cells is falls as the temperature of the Photo-Voltaic (PV) cells modules rise, modules commonly operate at temperatures over 50°C above ambient temperature, resulting in a performance reduction and DROP efficiency. This is the main reason that makes the usage of the Photo-Voltaic (PV) system in the sun belt countries is less choice.
By absorbing the heat from the Photo-Voltaic (PV) cell modules and lowering the operating temperature, significant gains can be achieved in system total performance and heat gained can be utilized for Domestic Water Heater (DWH) in inland water way w1its.
The solar hybrid Photo-Voltaic Thermal (PV/T) water collector system can provide both electrical power demand and Domestic Water Heater (DWH) which fitted on board an inland water unit tourist Nile cruise ”Dahabiya” sailing between Luxor and Aswan and vice versa. The unit electrical cost based on the Annual Life Cycle Cost (ALCC) for diesel generator and solar (PV/T) systems were investigated. Stability criteria and intact stability calculations for exists units are achieved where equipped with solar (PV IT) system. The numerical simulation conducted using Computational Fluid Dynamics (FLUENT code) for (PV/T) system shows that the electrical efficiency, daily energy have improved and thermal energy over a conventional (PY) system with negligible increase in the system costs.
It is conclude that, the solar hybrid (PV/T) system implemented on board an inland water unit tourist Nile cruise ”Dahabiya” on horizontal position with a bifacial module produces more electrical energy than a conventional (PV) system and thennal energy gained four times the electrical energy produced with emission free.
