Abstract

”In-mould” inculation of ductile cast iron specimen was tested to illustrate the effect of design of reaction chamber, and both inoculants alloy grain size and shape, where the inoculants alloy was used in the form of granules and in the form of blocks produced by cold sintaring technique, on the dessolution behavior of the inoculants alloy which affect the homogeneity of the graphitre nuclei, especially in the small productes.
The experiments was carried out using a cast iron melt to be treated at a constant pouring temperature (i4500 C) , pouring rate 45 km/min . using a low magnesium ferrosilicon alloys as an inoculants alloy addes directily in the mould with different four grads of grain sizes. The using of inoculants alloy in the form of granules had a constant percent of magnesium ”FeSiMg-5” VL-63), but for using the inoculants alloy in the form of blooks, the percent of magnesium in the inoculants alloy had three values of 5%, 10%, and 20%, where the inoculants alloy was crushed to a small granules and compacted on a form of blocks and a parallelpiped shape under a pressure equal to38 KN/cm2 the reaction chambers used for this investigation were designed to contain an amount of the inoculants alloy sufficient for the treatment of the casting weight with different values of the metal/inoculants alloy reaction area , also the values of the alloy solution factor ”ASF” had the values range from 0.012 to 0.037 kg cm2/sec.
