Abstract

This study was carried out in El Sharkia Governorate. Subjects included 1000 preschool children with age between 2 and 5 years. Each child was subjected to full history taking laying stress on: Name, age, sex, order of birth, consanguinity and residence. Father education and occupation, mother education and occupation and family income. History of medical diseases including GIT troubles, parasitic infestation, and food allergy.
Anthropometric measurements were carried out as follows; weight for age, height for age, occipitofrontal circumference, mid arm circumference, skin fold thickness.
The study showed that (53.8%) of studied children were males. Most of the studied children are of average social class. Most of studied children living in rural area. Most of fathers of the studied children have preparatory school educational level and most of mothers are illiterateThe results of the present study revealed that feeding problems were found among 70.4 % of the preschool children living in Sharkia governorate.
High frequency of feeding problems were revealed among children whose mothers concern about their feeding was small, Children with constipation, Children with parasitic infestation, Children who received mixed feeding and artificial feeding in the first 6 months.
High frequency of feeding problems were revealed among children who had early weaning (<4m) and delayed weaning (>6m), Children with below average social class, Children who live in rural area, Children whose fathers and mothers were illiterate, Children whose fathers were workers and whose mothers were working, Children whose mothers were (ignoring them, offering reward to them, praising then threatening them), Children with big family size and children with high or low body mass index.
