Abstract
Inventory has a direct link to the other assets of any company, and the management of inventory has a significant impact on the success or lack of the success of a manufacturing enterprise. In developing countries, must inventory control systems are manual systems. Careful analysis of manual inventory control systems pointed out that these systems are inaccurate, nonstandard and hence leads to relatively high inventory cost.
The problems inherent in these systems show that there is a need for introducing computer based systems. Hence, the present work is concerned with the development of a computerized inventory package. In this package, two approaches for inventory control are included : Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and Simulation.
The computer package is applied to the 8 . 4 feet refrigerator department in IDEAL Company. A sample of realistic data is used to test the package and a complete set of decision making reports is obtained.
The results have shown that the developed system is a tool that can be effectively used in practice. The obtained output plans are much more detailed and more accurate as compared with the manually prepared ones. from the economical point of view , there is a large saving of the total inventory cost of approximately 47%.
It is expected that the application of such package may also result in improving productivity of the department as a result of overcoming stock out problems.
The thesis is divided into two parts : the first part discusses the theoretical aspects of inventory control. This part consists of the following five chapters :
Chapter (1) : Statement of the problem.
Chapter (2) : Review of literature.
Chapter (3) : Material Requirements planning (MRP) .
Chapter (4) : Simulation Model.
The second part is dealing with the following items :
i)Developing, testing and validating a computer package to implement both MRP and Simulation.
ii) Application of the developed package to refrigerator department at Delta Industerial Company ”Ideal”, branche of Nasr City . Accordingly, it includes, the following chapters:
Chapter (5) : Design of computer package.
Chapter (6) : Case study .
A list of references, and appendices are also included in the thesis.
