Abstract Head and neck cancers account for 3% - 5% of all cancer cases in the U.S, annually. In Egypt primary head and neck cancers constitute about 17% of all malignant tumors. Patients with resectable HNSCC can be treated with surgery with radiotherapy, or with a combination of both. The best choice depends on several factors, including the extension and location of the tumor, the comorbidity,functional outcome and the desires of the patient. In our study of patients with head and neck cancer treated at clinical oncology department, Menofiya University from January 2005 till December 2010, it was found that most of patients were males 70%) , smokers (51.7%) and < or = 60 years (61.7%).The majority of patients had haemoglobin level 12gm/dl (70%) and pathological grade II (52.5%). The commonest site of malignancy among the group of patients was the larynx(31.7%).Stage III disease represented most of patients (36.7%) in our study. Treatment given to these patients was compound of surgery,chemoradiotheraby , induction chemotheraby followed by chemoradiotheraby, RT ,and chemotheraby. As regard response, CR rate was 25.8% and PR rate was 13.3%.It was found that there was significant correlation between hemoglobin level, stage of disease , type of radiotheraby fractionation and response.
