Abstract Lipoma is a benign tumor composed of mature white adipocytes. It is the most common soft tissue mesenchymal neoplasm in adults but rare in children. Lipoma occurs over a wide age range but it is more common between the ages of forty and sixty years with a higher incidence rate in obese individuals. Lipoma affects one percent of population and approximately five percent of patients have multiple lipomas.Treatment of lipoma is usually surgical by simple excision. This cures the majority of cases with about one to two percent of lipomas recurring after excision. Liposuction is another option if lipoma is soft and has a small connective tissue component.Liposuction typically results in less scarring but, both methods still have the risk of scarring. |
