Abstract tinea capitis, dermatophytosis, primary school children, incidence, M. canis, M.audouinii, dermscopy. Tinea capitis is dermatophytic infection of the scalp. It is very common among children. It is found more in developing countries. The most common presenting features are scaly type, black dot type, less commonly favus and kerion. In our study, we collected scales and hair samples from twelve primary schools in Fayoum city, Egypt. The incidence rate was 0.4% of the total students and culture revealed that M. canis is the most common (40%) of the isolated fungi, being higher in males and in public schools. We used dermoscopy which was helpful in reaching diagnosis in some cases. |
