Abstract Eight antihypertensive drugs namely veraparnil, amlodipine, nifedipine, hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide, indapamide, spironolactone and amiloride and two anticoagulant drugs namely heparin and warfarin were selected for this study. These compounds are frequently ingested for therapeutic reasons related to cardiovascular pathological conditions. The effect of the tested drugs on the growth of E. coli, K. pneumoniae. P mirabilis, Ps. aeruginosa and S. aureus reference strains as well as MDR isolates was investigated. Four drugs, amlodipine, furosemide, indapamide and heparin, retarded the growth of E. coli and S. aureus reference strains as well as MDR isolates in a concentration dependent manner. |
