Abstract The current investigation aims to study the pedological, chemical and mineralogical characteristics of some soils that are irrigated with sewage water in the west El-Monufiya governorate, Egypt. Classification and quantitative land capability evaluation for these soils are also carried out. Moreover, the suitability of these soils for growing certain major crops was achieved. For these purposes, ten soil profiles were selected representing the soils irrigated with different irrigation water sources. Two profiles were chosen representing the soils irrigated with fresh Nile water. Also, two profiles were selected representing the soils using agricultural drain water for irrigation. As well as, six profiles were chosen representing the soils using the mixed sewagedrainage water. Moreover, ten irrigation water samples were collected from each of the irrigation water source used for irrigation of these soils. Site characteristics are observed and registered and the soil profiles were dug deep down to 150 cm or the water table level. The profiles were morphologically described, then soil samples were taken representing different soil layers for integrated physical, chemical and mineralogical analysis. The important morphological properties were used for evaluating pedological development of profiles. .Sand fraction (63 – 125 μm) was used for studying light and heavy minerals. Clay fraction (<2 μm) was separated from the control section of studied profiles and prepared for x-ray diffraction analysis. Studied soils were evaluated for land capability classification and suitability for growing major fifteen field, vegetable and fruit crops. Also, soils were classified up to family level according to Soil Survey Staff (2010. |
