Abstract

The contribution of this dissertation lies in the fact that it draws attention to the legend of Robin Hood as a solid foundation of many serious literary works, and that its hero should not be dismissed as being only fit for children’s literature.
Many readers are not acquainted with the humane depth behind the legend. Therefore, the dissertation decomposes its motif of the legend into its various components, and investigates how this motif is realized in three contemporary novels, namely: Atlas Shrugged, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Holes.
