Abstract

Schizophrenia is among the top 10 disabling conditions
worldwide for young adults. it is a severe mental disorder
characterized by fundamental disturbances in thinking,
perception and emotions. More than 100 years of research have
not been able to fully resolve the puzzle that
schizophrenia represents. Some believed that Schizophrenia had
existed as long as mankind.
Research suggests that the negative symptoms of
Schizophrenia which mainly include ;(flattened affect, alogia,
apathy, avolition, anhedonia) contribute more to poor functional
outcomes and quality of life for individuals with schizophrenia
than do positive symptoms.
from the start, negative symptoms have a big weight and
importance in the course and prognosis of schizophrenia.
Kraepelin’s Synthesis included the identification of
”dementia praecox” to refer to the clinical entity we now call
schizophrenia ”Dementia” referred to the progressive
deteriorating course of both emotional and cognitive processes
while ”praecox” indicated the early age of onset in previously
healthy individuals.
