Abstract This study was devoted to: Assess myocardial functions in Egyptian patients with liver cirrhosis compared with normal controls. Thirty six Egyptian cirrhotic patients and sixteen normal control subjects had been enrolled this comparative study. Clinical, electrocardiographic and echocardiographic assessment of myocardial functions in both groups, had displayed the presence of significant cardiovascular abnormalities in cirrhotic group. In addition to full medical history and clinical examination the following cardiovascular parameters had been assessed: Electrocardiogram –Two dimensionally directed M-mode echocardiography to detect cardiac chambers diameters and wall thickness - Left ventricular systolic function through ejection fraction (EF%), cardiac output (COP) - left ventricular diastolic function through measurement of both E and A waves of mitral inflow and calculation of E/A ratio of mitral valve and tissue Doppler study at lateral annulus of mitral valve to assess left ventricular diastolic function |
