Abstract The right atrium is a dynamic structure whose role is to assist filling of the right ventricle. Ideally, the right atrium should transfer a high volume of blood rapidly to the ventricle at low pressure to prevent peripheral edema and hepatic congestion. (I) Atrial function could be primarily or secondarily affected in many cardiac disorders. The importance of heart failure has prompted investigators to focus on the atrial function assessment via SRI in patients with heart failure. Most of them have thus far studied the left atrial function and there is currently a few data on the reliability of SRI in evaluating the right atrial function in heart failure patients. |
