Abstract Schistosomiasis is one of the mojor world health problems. Unfortunately, the ill effects of schistosomiasis are under estimated as they ore late in appearance and data about morbidity ore derived from hospital admissions, these studies select the more seriously ill and provide misleading information about the public health significance of schistosomiasis. [here is a real need for morbidity data gained from community rmrmnhers rather than hospital patients. Data about time prevalence of compli cat ions among time patie’ls infested with schistosomiasis are scanty. Every day, practicising physician is faced with a multipi i city of clinical observations. fln one hand, you meet •i young patient, even a clmi1d , presenting with various camuplicalions of schistosomiasis arid on the other hand, you see an old man with definite history of schis— tosomiasis, but with no trace of ill effects of the disease on his health. In between these two extremes, you see all sages of the disease and complications with no clear expandtion. |
