Abstract The title of the dissertation is: ’The Fallen World in Shirley Jackson’s Gothic Horror with Special Reference to The Haunting of Hill House, We Have Always Lived in the Castle, and The Lottery.’ The dissertation is not only a psychoanalytic study of Shirley Jackson’s gothic fiction, but also an attempt to look into the various references in Jackson’s texts concerning Gothic and psychology. the main objectives of this study are: 1- To trace the personal, neurotic, and psychotic sources and images in Jackson’s fiction through the use of the Gothic elements. 2- To prove that the three works studied in the dissertation belong to the psychological horror genre by psychoanalyzing them. To represent the images of the fallen world in Jackson’s fiction through her persistent use of the psychological horror paraphernalia. 3- For the accomplishment of this goal, the dissertation is divided into an introduction, four chapters, and a conclusion. |
