Abstract The problem of increase in the radial tempreture of electric conductor with the carrying current is investigated through this work. The determination of the safety current carrying capacity of the overhead transmission lines is the main objective of the present investigation which was carried out by both experimental measurements and theoritical analysis. The results of this work show an increase in the T. L. temperature with the current. Also, , the temperature difference between the T. L. center and its surface is increased with current increasing. Also, at a fixed current, the T.L. temps, increases with time and approaches a steady-state value. The effect of T.L. size on the temperature was also analysed at different currents. The temperature of the T.L. surface increases with the decreasing in the T.L. diameter at a fixed current. Finally, the modified T.L. size and carrying current are obtained at different operating conditions . Also, a factor of safety is obtained depending on the temperature difference between outer and inner layers of the transmission lines. The thesis is composed of eight chapters briefly as follows : Chapter-1-introduction. Chapter-2-deals with the study of the preceding work in the field, and a survey of the major relevant points. Chapter-3-presents the experimental mode and how T.L. temperature is measured as a function of both time and radial distance at current flowing. Chapter-4-covers the method of analysis, and the derivation of the steady state equations. Chapter-5-presents the method of analysis of the transient case. Chapter-6-deals with the actual current that must be carried by the T.L, and the modided design for the area of the T. L. depending on a new factor of safety. Chapter-7-presents the experimental reults and also computer results based on the previous analysis. Chapter-8-presents the conclusions obtained throughout the studies carried out in the previous chapters. |
