Abstract

The emphasis on tooth replacement has overshadowed the need for preservation of alveolar bone for esthetics and functional replacement. The best prosthodontic management is needed after teeth extraction to preserve the residual ridges and provide a suitable support for removable partial dentures, fixed partial dentures or to provide a suitable bone site for implants.
The vertical dimension undergoes progressive and irreversible resorption, especially in the anterior region of the mandible rather than the maxilla particularly in the early 6 months. Immediate partial dentures used in this study to preserve the residual ridge and reduce the rate of bone resorption after teeth extraction.
The biocompatibility and clinical efficiency of denture base material have been and continue to be a major concern of dental profession
This study was conducted to study the clinical and cytological response of the oral mucosa to the thermoplastic immediate partial denture base material, compare its effect with the effect of conventional acrylic resin immediate partial denture base materials.
And to compare the rate of residual ridge resorption under the flexible thermoplastic and rigid conventional immediate partial dentures. Also to evaluates patient’s satisfaction.

In this study 14 female patients selected and divided equally into two groups: (test group) patients received the thermoplastic immediate partial dentures and patients in the (control group) received the rigid acrylic resin immediate partial denture.
The clinical evaluation was done 24 hours, one week and six months after denture insertion, the cytological, radiographic and patient satisfaction were evaluated at the time of immediate partial denture insertion and after six months of denture insertion.
The result of this study revealed that:
• No significant difference was found between the study groups in regards to residual ridge bone height at time of immediate dentures insertion.
• A significant difference was found in control group after six months of rigid immediate denture insertion in regards to residual ridge reduction.
• No significant difference was found in test group after six months of flexible immediate partial denture insertion in regards to residual ridge reduction.
• A significant difference was found between the two study groups in regards to residual bone height after six months of immediate dentures insertion.
• No significant difference was found between the study groups in regard to percentage of keratinized cell at time of denture insertion.
• A significant difference was found between the study groups in regard to percentage of keratinized cell after six months of denture insertion.
• No significant difference was found between the study groups at time and after one week of immediate denture insertion in regard to clinical evaluation of alveolar mucosa.
• A significant difference was found between the study groups six months after immediate denture insertion in regard to clinical evaluation of alveolar mucosa.
• A significant difference was found between the study groups in regard to patient general satisfaction at time and after six months of denture insertion.
