Abstract

Coronary artery diseases are the leading cause of death all over the world. The WHO has estimated that CHD currently contributes to 7.1 million deaths yearly on a global basis. The incidence of deaths from heart disease in the Eastern Mediterranean region ranges from 25 to 45 %. Several methods are used for diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases, such as intravascular ultrasound, cardiac catheterization, chest X-ray, exercise test and electrocardiogram (5) .Although many non invasive diagnostic techniques have been commonly used, cardiac catheterization is considered the most definite procedure for the diagnosis and evaluation of coronary heart diseases.

Clinical guidelines outline treatment recommendations that reflect the best available scientific knowledge for use in making medical decision. The use of scientifically based guidelines to manage clinical situations improves the efficiency in the delivery and quality of health care and helps to control health care costs. Additionally, clinical guidelines can be used as educational and evaluation tools for health professionals.
This study was carried out to develop nursing care guidelines for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization based on their needs.
