Abstract The entitled thesis ”Structures and Applications of Some Azo Compound and their Complexes” comprises three chapters: The first chapter includes the literature survey on the biological importance, structural chemistry and complex formation of some l-amino-2-hydroxy-4-naphthalenesulfonic acid derivatives. This chapter is ended by the aim of the work which includes briefly: • Syntheses of some arylazo derivatives of l-amino-2-hydroxy-4-naphthalenesulfonic acid acid (H2Ll) and their FeIII, COil, Niu, and CUll complexes. • The use of spectroscopic (UV -Vis., IR, ESR) and magnetic measurements to confirm the structure of the ligands and their complexes. • Applications ofthermal analysis. • Computerized and statistical estimation of the effect of solvents and effect of pH on the electronic spectra ofthe arylazo derivatives. The second chapter describes the experimental part of the thesis. The synthesis of five azo-derivatives compounds (H2L2- H4L6) from the parent compound (H2Ll) was given where: H2L 2 = 3-(phenylazo)-1-amino-2-hydroxy-4-naphthalenesulfonic acid H3L3 = 3-(o-carboxyphenylazo)-1-amino-2-hydroxy-4-naphthalenesulfonic acid H3L 4 = 3-(m-hydroxyphenylazo)-1-amino-2-hydroxy-4-naphthalenesulfonic acid H3L5 = 3-(o-hydroxyphenylazo)-1-amino-2-hydroxy-4-naphthalenesulfonic acid H4L 6 = 3-(p--carboxyl-m-hydroxyphenylazo)-1-amino-2-hydroxy-4-naphthalene- sulfonic acid. |
