Abstract

A new prototype was designed for small areas to produce untraditional feed from the rice straw. The new prototype picked the straw mechanically from the ground and cutting this straw to suitable lengths for animals, while a spraying unit sprayed the straw with urea liquid through cutting operating immediately by using electronic control device with electrical sensors to adapt the mass of sprayed liquid with the inlet straw density then the straw packaged in plastic sacks by packaging unit to improve fermentation process. then this prototype was tested to evaluate it’s performance under different straw quantities for various species of rice to, maximize the field efficiency and field capacity for the unit area to reduce the operating time and reduce the economic cost for producing untraditional feed from rice straw.
Factors Tested:
Four experiments were carried out in the laboratory and field to study the effect of different operation condition on the performance of the pick-up unit, the cutting unit, the spraying unit and the prototype at general in the field.
Field experiment factors for the new prototype:
1- Four forward speeds for the prototype ; 0.878, 1.086, 1.324, and 1.716 km/h.
2- Three header tilt angles; 0.611, 0.698 and 0.785 rad.
3- Three cutting disks span; 1.5, 2.5 and 5 cm.
4- Two spraying nozzles angles; 0.524 and 1.047 rad.
The study included the following measurements:
1- The prototype productivity, ton/h.
2- The prototype field efficiency, %.
3- The prototype field capacity, fed/h.
4- The fuel consumption, lit/min.
5- The prototype energy requirements, kw.h/fed.
6- The total economic cost , (pound/fed) and the cost estimation, (pound/h).
The important results which obtained as following:
The results indicated that the maximum value of the prototype productivity was about 1.84 ton/h obtained when the prototype forward speed was 1.716 km/h and the header tilt angle was adjusted at 0.785 rad and the cutting disks span was 5 cm.
Uses of the new prototype for converting the rice straw residues into untraditional feed at 1.716 km/h forward speed, 0.785 rad of the header tilt angle, cutting disks span of 5 cm , the spraying nozzles axial angle with 1.047 rad and the conical type for the spraying nozzles type recorded the maximum productivity and the field capacity.
