Abstract This thesis comprises four chapters. The first one deals with general literature review on the coordination chemistry of ONO and ONS tridentate and N202, N2S2 tetra dentate chelating agents derived from hydrazine compounds. The scope and goals are. Also included in this chapter. The main goal of this thesis is a better understanding of self- assembly of transition metal complexes into desired supramolecular entities by utilizing the metal ion’s preferences for different coordination geometries, designing suitable ligands and using intermolecular interactions such as hydrogen bonding and rt - 1t interactions. The second chapter is devoted to a detailed description of crystal engineering which involves the design and synthesis of new crystalline materials with a variety of properties, functions and applications. Knowing that molecular crystals comprised molecules held together by intermolecular interactions (e.g. hydrogen bonding, 1t-1t interactions,) and crystallization, by definition, is a self-assembly process, crystal engineering may be regarded as the solid state branch of supramolecular chemistry. |
