Abstract

It is considered that rubber products are non-mutant materials which difficult to get rid of them. Generally, getting rid of rubber products are done either with burning or grinding them into small grains and using them as a filling material in different applications.
Road construction is a costly industry which consumes many raw materials. Many researches have investigated using waste tires crumb rubber in road construction, and many researchers have mixed crumbed rubber with asphalt in a wet process.
In this research, the crumb rubber is mixed with asphalt (penetration type 60/70) after modifying it with some chemicals. The chosen chemicals are silicone oil, maleic anhydride and dispersing agent which help crumb rubber for better distribution in asphalt matrix.
For choosing the best chemical with best dose, modifying chemicals are used with crumb rubber with doses range from 0.5 to 2.5 per hundred of rubber. The physical properties (penetration and softening point) and mechanical properties (tensile and elongation at break) are tested for the different types of rubberized asphalt binders (asphalt + crumb rubber + chemical dose). The morphology properties for binders’ surface are examined using scanning electron microscope.
The best dose and type of modifying chemicals, which was silicone oil with dose of 1.5 per hundred of rubber, was used in open graded rubberized asphaltic mixture and mechanical properties (stability value and rutting depth) and physical properties (sound absorption and water permeability coefficients) were examined for the mixture. It was

founded that there was a considerable improvement for these properties of this mixture comparing with other conventional and blank rubberized asphalt mixtures.
