Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder caused by an absolute or relative deficiency of insulin, insulin resistance or relative insulin deficiency lead to type 2 diabetes (Non-insulin dependant DM).Diabetic nephropathy is a chronic syndrome characterized by persistent microalbuminuria (30-300 mg/24 hours) with a decline in the glomerular filtration rate and elevated arterial blood pressure. If microalbuminuria left untreated and exceeds 300 mg/24 hours it is called macroalbuminuria and acts as leading cause of chronic renal failure, so diabetes is a main cause of end sage renal disease. The present study was performed to throw a light on long pentraxin-3 (PTX3) as a novel marker of endothelial dysfunction and its role in development of diabetic nephropathy.
