Abstract

The liver is a vital organ present; it has a wide range of functions, a few of which are detoxification, protein synthesis, and production of biochemicals necessary for digestion. The liver is necessary for survival; there is currently no way to compensate for the absence of liver function. Ultrasound (US) is often the first imaging investigation for patients with liver disease, microbubble: contrast agents has led to improved characterisation and detection of focal liver lesions since the enhancement characteristics can be visualised in real time over a 5 min period. The introduction of US contrast agents and the development of contrast-specific scanning techniques have substantially increased the sensitivity and specificity of US in the detection and characterization focalliver lesions .. Contrast enhanced ultrasound agents may be intravenous or oral. Among the intravenous UCAs, which include Sono Vue, Levovist,Sonazoid, Optison, Definity and Imagent, Levovist and Sono Vue are commonly used:
