Abstract

OC carries a small but a definite risk to the health of young women. Hepatio hazards is now gaining special interest especially in tropioal regions due to the increasing incidence of cholestasis. vascular.
biliary lesions, hepatic neoplasms among OC users. So the aim of our study was to find out the side effeots of OCt their types. duration of use on both clinioal and functional state of the liver.
155 middle aged women (20-45 years) neither pre-gnant nor post-partum were ohosen randomly from females working in Ilisr / She bin El-Kom Spinning and Weaving Company and attendants of its Family Planning Center.
They were divided into 2 groups pill users and non users.
Complete medical history. clinical examination, blood
analysis • urine. and stool analysis were dODe for 80 co-operative bill users and 40 DOD Q8ers.
Statistical analysis of resnlts revealed that commonly used types of pills were Prlaovlar, ADOvlar then Nordet respectively. Nordet appears the ideal OC reg-arding liver span and liver function tests. The pill users were commonin the middle education and socioeco-nomic classes. Commonsymptoms6~gnificantly amongusers were hesdach, dizzness, weight gain, abdominal distens-ion, nausea, vomiting, hyperacidity and odema of legre specti vely.
A significant difference was found between those using OCd 5 years and etllera ·uabs pl1l.e-1:or 5years-7.
regarding both enlarged liver (415 ca ) and abnormal elevation of both GXTand Gar levels.
