Abstract Chemical And Biological Constituents from The Leaf Extracts Of The Wild ’choke (Cynara comigera L) ELSAYED SM, INAZIF NM, I HASSAN RA, IHASSANEIN HD, 2ELKHOL Y YM, MAANS 1,3SHAHAT AA , ~ochemistry Department, National Research Centre, 12311 Dokki, Cairo, Egypt. artments of Chemistry, Helwan University, Cairo, Egypt, 3Medicinal, Aromatic and isonous Plants Research Center, College of Pharmacy, King Saud University, Riyadh, gdom of Saudi Arabia ’e compounds have been recognized as cynaroside 1, apigenin-7-0-glucoside 2 and Iymoside 3 and two sesquiterpens viz. grosheimin 4 and solstitalinA 5. Their ctures were elucidated by spectral methods. Compounds 4 and 5 were isolated from Jnara cornigera L for the fIrst time. The antioxidant potential was found to be .8%), for EtOAc fraction, (88.46%) for MeOH extract and (74.8%) for mother liquor lion. Compounds 1 and 3 were isolated as the active principles from the EtOAc hon with antioxidant activities 90.2, & 90.5% respectively using DPPHo assay paring to the reference trolox (91.6 %). Compound 2 gave weak activity. No ’oxidant activity was noticed for compounds 4 and 5. The EtOAc fraction and the 10 methanolic extract exhibited hepatoprotective activity at a concentration of 12.5 mL. Compounds 1 and compound 3 showed hepatoprotective activity at a entration of 50 and 25 Ilg/mL, respectively on using the monolayer hepatocytes |
