Abstract Synthesis of Some PolyCondensed Water Soluble Schiff Base Derivatives and Their Application in Petroleum Field By Ahmed Ragab Abd EI-Hafiez Ahmed Water-in-crude oil emulsions stabilized by various surface-active components are one of the major problems in relation to petroleum production. This thesis presents the preparation of some water soluble nonionic surfactants based on Schiff base monomers. The reaction between PHBA, OHBA and ODA produced 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde-N-octadecylimine (PHOS) or 2¬hydroxybenzaldehyde-N-octadecylimine (OHOS), respectively. On the other hand, DDA reacted with PHBA and OHBA to produce 4¬hydroxybenzaldehyde-N -dodecylimine (PHDS) or 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde¬N-dodecylimine (OHDS), respectively. Schiff base polymers were prepared by polycondensation of Schiff base monomers with para-formaldyde in the presence of KOH. The Schiff base surfactants were prepared from the ethoxylation of Schiff base monomer and polymers in presence of ethylene oxide (EO). The chemical structure of the prepared surfactants was illustrated by IR and IH-NMR spectra. The physicochemical characteristics, surface properties of the prepared Schiff base monomer and polymer were determined. Evaluation of desalting and demulsification efficiencies of the prepared demulsifiers was carried |
