Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of Salmonella and E.coli in quail. A total of 100 quails (50 of Japanese quails and 50 of migratory quails) were gathered from different sources. In order to perform bacteriological examination, 100 cloacal swabs, 100 liver and 100 intestinal samples were collected .The results revealed that, Salmonella spp. was isolated from 8 farm quail with an incidence of 16%; where E.coli spp. was isolated from 16 farm quail with an incidence of 32%.Also, E.coli was isolated from 10 migratory quail with an incidence of 20%. All samples were biochemically identified .Also serological identification was carried out, where 9 E.coli were belonged to O1, O6 and O156 and 8 Salmonella isolates were identified as Salmonella typhimurium
The antibiogram for isolated strains was applied, in which 12 antibacterial agents were used.
PCR was used for detection of E.coli and Salmonella Strains, by targeting uidA gene as species-specific encoding gene for E.coli and dH flagellin gene for Salmonella.
