Abstract

The crystalline basement of the Meatiq dome is mainly subdivided into two major tectonostratigraphic units; (i) the lower infrastructure unit that dominated by the Um Ba’anib orthogneiss and metasedimentary rocks, and (ii) the upper suprastructure, which is defined by volcano-sedimentary association and nappes of ophiolitic mélange of obducted island-arc rocks. The infrastructure and suprastructure rock units are intruded by syn-tectonic granitoids that represented by Abu-Ziran and Abu-Fannani, and late- to post-tectonic granitoids that represented by Arekie admalites.
The Um Ba’anib orthogneisses are the predominant rock unit in the Meatiq dome that cropped out at the central part of the mapped area in the core of the domal structure. The metasedimentary rock unit is represented by highly foliated and sheared quartz-rich metasedimentary rocks and represented by metamorphosed psammitic and psamopelitic rocks. The volcano-sedimentary association is commonly cropped out at the eastern part of the Meatiq area, where it is less common at the western part of the dome. Obducted ophiolitic cover nappe is surrounding the Meatiq basement from all sides, except the southern part. It is represented by serpentinites and talc schist. Syn-tectonic granitoids comprises Abu Ziran and Abu Fannani granitoids are intruding the infrastructure and suprastructure units of the Meatiq dome. Finally, Late- to post-tectonic granitoids comprises Arieki granitoids that intruded the Meatiq dome at its northern border as a circular igneous pluton.
