Abstract Acute kidney injury (AKl) is a catastrophic, life-threatening event in critically ill children. (AKl) represents the spectrum of disease from subclinical injury to complete organ failure. AKI in the K’U is common, increasing in incidence and is associated with a substantial increase in morbidity and mortality. AKl occurs in approximately 7% of all hospitalized patients and in up to 36% to 67% of critically ill patients. Acute kidney injury has replaced the term ARF and a universal definition and staging system has been proposed to allow earlier detection and management of AKI. The new terminology enables healthcare professionals to consider the disease as a spectrum of injury. |
